Individually they’ve come from wildly different musical worlds, Robin from classical music, leading orchestras, singing for the pope, Simon from pop, leading boyband Switch 22, but together they are only interested in film, marrying their passions for Hong Kong, trashy pop culture and the surreal.
The pair first created the loudmouth jungle MC SuperMassiveRaver as a youtube series, quickly nailing very respectable views and raising a chunk of cash to shoot a mini-series in Hong Kong. They then moved onto Eastenders, creating ultimate fanboy series ‘Stenderz‘ in which they took the week’s storylines and spun them into a rap video pastiche, perfectly recreating the original videos.
This brought them to the attention of Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton who proclaimed them ‘Brilliant.’ Spells writing comedy songs for her show then led to them being hunted down by Rankin who shot them for Hunger Magazine and engaged them to write and direct the Hunger Pod, a monthly podcast for the magazine.
The pair’s next collaboration was a turn to the dark side, shooting the 40min martial arthouse film ‘Dog‘ which won numerous awards at festivals all over the world. Simon is now a published author of romance novels and Robin continues to work as SuperMassive directing comedy virals and TV shows, notably the Indestructibles which airs on Dave in November 2015.
